MEET SIDNEY ROSE McCALL
Sidney Rose McCall was so inspired by Circle Theatre Company's production of Guys and Dolls it drove her to join us during our 2009-2010 season. She is currently in 9th grade and is already an accomplished playwright and director having co-written two plays and directed two plays before her involvement with Circle Theatre Company.
Sidney is quite the pet lover sharing her home with Pippy, a brindle greyhound; Miko, Suki, Munchkin, and Nemo - all bottom-feeder fish; and three hermit crabs named Zeus, Jewel, and El Tigre. Her beloved catmate, as she refers to, Masey, recently passed away and both Sidney and her older brother miss her terribly.
Outside of Circle, Sidney enjoys singing, dancing, photography, writing short skits and writing in general. In fifth grade, she won the Modern Woodmen of America Oration State Competition and was a finalist in Nationals. She plans on following her parent's footsteps after high school by attending college. Sidney hopes to major in Film/Directing with a minor in Musical Theatre and Philosophy.
What do you hope to gain from being a part of Circle Theatre Company? I hope to gain more knowledge on directing and improve my acting skills.
What's your favorite shows? Billy Elliot, Wicked, The Wiz, and Gypsy
Fondest family memory We went to Minnesota for Christmas 2007. It was an exhilarating experience, filled with hiking through the snow, driving on ice and warm, cozy nights in front of the fireplace.
Sidney's Favs: Restaurant - Olive Garden (especially the spaghetti, salad, and breadsticks) Food - Shrimp Boo ks - Copper Sun, The Improper Life of Bezellia Grove, and Evermore
Favorite memories of Company thus far: During Bye Bye Birdie, I walked across the stage when I wasn't suppose to. Mrs. McCoy yelled "FREEZE" and I dove to the floor - my dress flew up in the back. It was quite funny. Our weekly prayer requests are special too - it helps me focus on what is really meaningful in life and use God's gifts to the fullest each day!
When asked if she would recommend Circle Theatre to others, Sidney replied, "I would highly recommend Circle Theatre Company to families even those that don't want to go into theatre. This is a great opportunity that broadens your horizons. You learn how to be more social, take direction, interact with others and, being in Circle Theatre encourages your creativity. Circle Theatre Company has helped me become more outgoing and also honed in on my strengths and areas where I need to make improvements. I love all the teachers/directors, staff and company members. I feel a connection... You see God's presence in all we do as a Company and as a family."
Thanks Sidney for reminding us all of how important it is to feel connected with one another!
